This session began at home, in the soft window light that makes in-home sessions so irreplaceable. Then we moved outside to the Hoboken Waterfront, where the Hudson River and the Manhattan skyline gave us a backdrop that is uniquely, unmistakably this family’s world.

Every milestone age has its gifts. But five months has a particular combination of qualities that makes it uniquely rewarding to photograph — and uniquely worth preserving.

By this age, your baby can hold their head up steadily and track your face across the room. They smile and laugh with genuine expression — not the reflexive smiles of the early weeks, but real ones that reach their eyes. They can sit with gentle support for portraits, and they reach and grab, which creates the most beautiful candid moments without any prompting at all.

What makes five months so special is the balance. Their personality has started to shine through clearly, but the newborn softness and fragility is still there — you can still see it in their skin, in the way they curl into you. They’re active enough for joyful, candid images, and calm enough for tender, intimate ones. Every session is designed around your baby’s rhythm — not a rigid schedule. Here is how a typical 5-month milestone session with me unfolds:

Before the session

We start with a short consultation where we plan everything together — location, timing based on your baby’s nap and feed schedule, what to wear, and what kind of images you are hoping to create. Nothing is left to chance.

The session itself

For most 5-month sessions, I begin at home. In-home sessions in NJ and NYC produce some of the most intimate, personal images I create — because your home is where this baby’s story is actually unfolding. The light, the textures, the details of the nursery — all of it becomes part of the image.

If we are including an outdoor component — like the Hoboken Waterfront, a local park, or a favorite NJ location — we move there after the in-home portion, when the baby is fed, rested, and ready.

Sessions run approximately 1.5–2 hours, with built-in time for feeds, soothing, and outfit changes. There is no rushing.

After the session

You will be invited to a private viewing and ordering session where you see your images together and choose your favorites. Wall art and heirloom albums are designed to live in your home — not sit forgotten in a digital folder.

For families in Hudson County and the NYC metro area, the Hoboken Waterfront offers a backdrop that is simply unlike anything else — the Hudson River and the full Manhattan skyline behind your family. Morning sessions here are especially beautiful. This was the location for the outdoor portion of this session, and the resulting images have a scale and a sense of place that indoor portraits cannot replicate.
