Fall is such a beautiful season and I wanted to share a clothing guide and few tips to make your family photos a success!
1. I recommend selecting outfits that complement the wide range of colors that the fall has to offer. Make sure not to select an outfit whose colors will blend in with the background. For example, black clothing may blend in with the background, while white clothing may be too bright. Choose flattering colors that don’t have busy patterns and blend well with the surroundings. I usually begin with Mom’s outfit and then plan the rest of the family’s outfits using the same palette of colors.
In the photos below, the Mom chose maroon, grey and blue colors. They beautifully complement her eyes as well as what the rest of her family is wearing. Her husband and kids chose grey and blue colors so that all the outfits are coordinated. If you’ve noticed, the boys are wearing similar colors, but not exactly the same outfits so that it is not matchy-matchy.
2. Start with the end goal in mind. Where do you plan to display the photos from your session? It is best to coordinate your outfits with the decor of your home so that the final wall art will look cohesive and coordinated. I have attached portraits below from a fall session, as well as the wall art which is beautifully displayed at the family’s living room.
3. Last but not least, have a great time and enjoy your session! It is all about creating memories and cherishing the present moments. In the end, your photos will reflect the love and connection you share as a family. This session has taken place at Reeves-Reed Arboretum in Summit NJ but you might want to check out about how to find the best spot for your fall photos. It might be a lot closer than you think 🙂
I hope you find those tips useful in planning your session this coming season. Let’s be in touch TODAY to plan your session!
Below are the family’s favorites that they chose for the wall art to decorate their living room with. This is a mock up design to give you an idea of how it looks as it was too dark to take a proper photo when the wall art was being installed.
