Upper East Side Newborn Photographer NYC | In-Home Lifestyle Sessions
There is something particular about photographing a family with newborn on the Upper East Side. The light in those apartments, especially in the mornings when it comes low and even through the tall windows, is some of the most beautiful natural light I photograph in. This is what inspires me as an Upper East Side newborn photographer. The rooms have height. The details have character. And the families are almost always ready before I arrive, the bassinet positioned near the window, the older sibling already curious about what we’re doing.
I have been photographing in-home newborn sessions on the Upper East Side for years, and what I find myself thinking after almost every one is that this neighborhood suits in-home newborn photography especially well. Not because of a particular type of family but because the homes themselves tend to work with the camera in ways that feel effortless.
What an In-Home Newborn Session on the Upper East Side Looks Like
Every session I photograph in Manhattan begins with a conversation to share the vision. Before I arrive, we have already met, virtually or in person, to talk through the light and layout of your home, discuss what you want to feel in the photographs, and make clothing decisions that will keep the focus on your family rather than the stress of what everyone is wearing. You can learn more about the full session experience here.
On the day of the photo session, I arrive at your apartment. No equipment to set up. No backdrop to hang. We start wherever the light is best. In most Upper East Side homes that means the bedroom or a room with large windows. From there we move naturally through the space, following the baby and following the light.
Most sessions last two to three hours, though we never rush. The baby sets the pace. If a feeding happens, we pause. If your older child decides they’re done cooperating, we shift focus. The goal is not to check off poses but to capture the memories that are happening right in front of us.
The Neighborhoods I Photograph In
I photograph in-home newborn sessions throughout Manhattan and the surrounding boroughs — the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Tribeca, Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, and beyond. I also serve families across New Jersey, including Bergen County, Essex County, Hudson County, and Morris County.
UES apartments have a particular architecture that works beautifully for in-home sessions. The prewar co-ops and tall windows mean morning light moves through those rooms in a way I look forward to every time
When to Book Your Upper East Side Newborn Photographer
The ideal time to book is during your second trimester. This gives us time to schedule your Design and Styling Consultation well before the due date, plan all the details, and share the vision together. Many families book their newborn session together with their maternity session, so the story of expecting and the story of arrival become one continuous and connected body of work. By the time the baby arrives you have nothing to arrange — we simply confirm the date once the baby is home.
The most common window for newborn sessions is one to three weeks after birth. At one week, babies carry that deeply peaceful, just-born quality. By two to three weeks, there are hints of personality emerging, a fleeting expression, a moment of eye contact, while the newborn softness is still fully present. Both windows are beautiful and they simply feel different. Take a look at my newborn photography timing guide for a full breakdown of what to expect at each stage.
If your baby is already here, reach out anyway. I photograph sessions at four, five, and six weeks regularly, and this stage has its own quality that I genuinely love. More awake, more expressive, more of a sense of your baby’s personality beginning to emerge.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you travel to the Upper East Side for newborn sessions?
Yes — I photograph in-home newborn sessions throughout Manhattan, including the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Tribeca, and the Brooklyn neighborhoods. Travel to Manhattan is included for most sessions.
How long is a typical newborn session?
Most sessions are two to three hours based on what the baby needs. There is always plenty of room for feeding breaks, soothing, and whatever comes up in the moment. The baby sets the pace and the family sets the tone. Sometimes we go a little longer and that is always welcome.
When should I book?
During your second or third trimester if possible. The most popular dates fill early, especially in spring and fall. If your baby is already here please reach out. I sometimes have openings and will always do my best to make the timeline work
Do you photograph siblings and partners during the session?
The whole family is welcome to be part of the session. Siblings, partners, grandparents, and family pets. Because what we are capturing is not just the baby but the love and connection you all share. During our consultation you can let me know whether you want more time with the whole family together, more focus on the baby, or a mix of both.
What should we wear?
Soft, solid colors or soft patterns photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your family. We’ll go over everything together during your Design and Styling Consultation before the session so there is no guessing on what will photograph well
