Here are my 3 tips to make your maternity photo session a breeze.

Timing of the Photo Session

1. The best time to take maternity photos is in the last trimester around 30 weeks. You want to avoid having your maternity photos taken too early when the belly isn’t showing that well yet. At the same time, after 35 weeks of pregnancy the mom usually feels more uncomfortable. However, it is still possible to take photos closer to the due date as you can see in this beautiful maternity session of a pregnant mom with a toddler.

Location for Maternity Photos

2. The location where you take your photos also makes a difference as the session should be relaxing and comfortable for the mom-to-be. Home is always the best place to start as it’s the most natural and relaxing environment for the family. Additionally, home provides a place for more intimate photos. Afterwards, we can do the scenic maternity photos outdoors either in a beautiful park like Van Vleck House and Gardens in Montclair NJ, Central Park in New York or perhaps by the Hoboken Waterfront by Hudson River overlooking NYC Skyline.

Maternity Dresses

3. Choose clothing that is the most flattering to you and accentuates your belly. Maternity dresses are usually very versatile for the mom-to-be. Always plan your outfits beforehand so you have one less thing to think about on the day of your session. In getting ready for the session, it is always a good idea to get the hair and makeup done professionally to feel and look the very best.
