Every April, I find myself watching the trees the way most people watch the weather. Cherry blossom maternity session photos in NJ are one of the most sought-after sessions of the entire spring season. The moment those first pink petals open, I know we have about two weeks — maybe three if the season is kind — before cherry blossom season in NJ is over for another year.
As a maternity photographer in Morristown NJ, this is one of the most anticipated and time-sensitive seasons I photograph all year.
It is the most requested backdrop of my entire spring, and when you see what it produces, it is not hard to understand why.
This spring, Caroline and Danny reached out to me with a due date in early May and a wish: they wanted the blossoms. We scheduled their maternity session here in Morristown, NJ — starting outside, then moving indoors into the soft window light of their home. What we created together was something I still think about — two chapters of the same love story, told in completely different light, on one unhurried morning.

Morris County does not get nearly enough credit as a photography destination — and I think that is actually part of what makes it so special. As a maternity photographer serving both New Jersey and New York City, I’ve come to appreciate how rare it is to find locations that feel both beautiful and unhurried.
In April, the area transforms wherever you are. In Morristown and across Morris County, cherry blossoms open along parks and residential streets. In Essex County, Branch Brook Park draws families with one of the largest collections of cherry blossom trees in the country. And in New York City, Central Park and Riverside Park become some of the most breathtaking backdrops of the entire year. Each location has its own character — whether you want something quieter and closer to home, or a beloved spot in the city that already holds meaning for your family — and I love working in all of them.
For Caroline and Danny, photographing close to home in Morristown was meaningful. These were their streets, their neighborhood — and that kind of personal connection shows up in the images. Cherry blossom season in NJ and NYC lasts about two weeks. Once those petals drop, they’re gone until next April — and so is this moment in your pregnancy.

For this Morristown maternity session, we began outside in the blossoms — where there is movement, laughter, and a sense of being fully inside the moment. Caroline laughed as Danny spun her under the trees. That kind of emotion cannot be staged.
Then we moved indoors. Everything softened. Quieted. The two of them, close together, in the stillness that exists in the weeks before a baby arrives. A hand resting on her bump. Her face turned toward the window light. The kind of image that lives on a wall for decades.
This combination — the aliveness of outdoor portraits and the intimacy of in-home light — creates a more complete story. Two chapters of the same experience. For something as layered as pregnancy, that feels exactly right.

This is the question I receive most often — and the honest answer is simple: book before you think you need to.
Spring dates fill faster than any other time of year because everyone wants the blossoms, and the bloom window is short.
Timing your session:
Caroline was 31 weeks when we photographed her session — that stage where everything feels full, real, and beautifully defined.

Your outfit plays a significant role in how your images feel. The goal is to complement the blossoms, not compete with them.
Not sure what to choose? Every session includes a pre-session design consultation where we plan everything together so you walk in feeling confident and prepared.

Whether your session takes place in Morristown or elsewhere in NJ/NYC, here is what the experience looks like:
